Something for everyone
There is something for everyone using our holiday cottages as a base. From golf and whisky, castles, dolphins, cycling and walking. Whatever the weather and time of year we’re sure you’ll find plenty to choose from!
The village has an excellent pub, The Admirals right by the harbour, as well as a chemist, post office, a local shop, church and hairdressers. There is a pop-up café on a Thursday in the village hall on Station Road 2-4pm, a fish and chip van comes to the village most Friday’s that parks at the village hall between 4 – 6.30pm (see Little Kitchen Outside Catering on Facebook for details).
Whisky
If you don’t like whisky when you arrive, you probably will by the time you leave! There are numerous distilleries offering tours, from very traditional distilleries to the new modern visitor centre at Macallan.

We are lucky enough to have the Moray Firth Dolphins right here on our doorstep. They can be seen anywhere along this coast line, but there are a few hot spots to check out.

Along with whisky, there are also quite a few castles and historic buildings to visit! You can follow the Castle Trail or just pick out one or two that catch your eye. Some are ruins which are great to explore and imagine a time long ago, whilst some are still lived in.

Although a bit on the chilly side you can spend hours of fun in the sea! Sandend and Banff Links beaches are both great spots for surfing or body boarding. Cheap wet suits are available from the Spotty Bag Shop in Banff. There are body boards, buckets and spades, fishing nets and crabbing lines at the cottage for your enjoyment.
This area of coastline is stunning for kayaking. You can launch from the small beach right by our Duke Street cottage and head along to Strathlene where you’re almost guaranteed to be joined by the inquisitive seals, or go in the other direction along to Portknockie and Bow Fiddle rock. All the time with the chance of being joined by the dolphins – a paddlers haven.
Seeing the incredible Aurora Borealis is a bit hit and miss, with no guarantees, but if you visit between October and February you might be lucky enough to get a glimpse of this amazing light show. We recommend downloading the Aurora Watch UK app, and signing up for the alerts – then keeping your fingers (and toes) crossed!
This Spy Trail starts and finishes at Portsoy’s Salmon Bothy then continues in Cullen starting and finishing near the harbour. The clues are all solved whilst walking. The Trail is hilly and is regrettably unsuitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs. The Trail takes 2¾ hours and is roughly 3 miles walk. The towns of Portsoy and Cullen are 6 miles apart.
